Putama is a not-for profit organisation that was founded in 2010 by Thelma Parker, an Aboriginal woman of the Waluwarra and Kalkadoon clan groups of north west Queensland.

Putama is a Waluwarra word meaning ‘future dreaming’ and encapsulates the purpose of Putama to facilitate educational, leadership and employment  pathways for Indigenous young people and their families, particularly those from areas of north western Queensland that have not received targeted support from other organisations.

A scholarship program for Indigenous young people is the key platform for the delivery of Putama Leadership. Scholarships offered include both secondary schooling at partner boarding and day schools and tertiary study at partner universities.

The leadership program (Licence 4 Life) is offered to all scholarship holders. Licence 4 Life is registered with Queensland Studies Authority and contributes four points towards the achievement of a Queensland Certificate of Education.

Putama welcomes inquiries about sponsorship, mentoring and donations.
